| The Blue-crowns have been regarded as one
of the most intelligent conures. They can be taught to talk
and acquire a rather large vocabulary. They are very affectionate.
These birds are a lot like Macaws in personality. The Blue-crowned
can be likened to a smaller version of a Macaw in it's behavior--it
is noisy and often temperamental. They are one of the best
talkers among smaller parrots and usually bond to all family
members, not just one. Some parrots get a bit nippy after
they are weaned and are not handled enough, but most Blue
Crowns stay tame.
Blue Crowns want a lot of attention from you , like most
other pet birds. They like to be out of their cage as often
as possible. They love to interact with you. They love to
take showers and act goofy. They need lots of toys to keep
them busy during the day and also need some chew toys made
out of wood or leather.
This Conure has a green body with a blue cast to it's head.
The females have smaller heads that are a duller blue. The
immature lacks any blue on it's forehead. The beak is long
and pointed with a black color that turns lighter at the tip.
The Blue-crowned Conure is a fairly large bird, growing to
a length of 15 inches.
