Mitred
This Conure is known as Aratinga mitrata |
|
| It is the largest of the Aratingas. It may
be larger than some Amazon parrots, too. This is a very beautiful
bird closely related to other conures which have red on the
forehead and green on the body. The Mitred's beak is horn-colored,
it's feet are brown and it grows to a length of 15 inches.
The immatures, however, have less red on the forehead and
dark irises. The Mitred Conure is both intelligent and noisy.
It will learn to talk easily and will become fairly tame as
well as breed readily. Western South America is its native
area.
