Scarlets
They are known as Ara macao |
|
|
| Nature created a spectacular combination
of colors in the Scarlet macaws. Scarlet macaws prefer the
attention of the immediate family more than large crowds,
but they can become real show-offs if introduced to public
life at a young age. If scarlet macaws are raised in a loving
environment, allowed daily freedom from their cages and played
with regularly, they will match any blue and gold macaw in
gentleness. Scarlet Macaws can be the most loving and adoring
member of the family. But if mistreated or teased when they
are young, they can become headstrong and unhappy.
The Scarlet is among the noisiest of all macaws.
Do not consider this bird for an apartment environment (unless,
of course, your neighbors just happen to all be deaf!). They
predominantly bond with one person and are not recommended
for homes with small children. However, can be trained if
reared from hatchlings. They have a faithful nature to their
owners. They are inquisitive and big-time chewers!! Be certain
to provide thick branches and tree stumps. They are very hardy
and robust once acclimated. The Scarlet enjoys bathing and
loves a good misting from time to time.
