| The Sun Conures are an absolute delight.
They are beautiful to look at and are so cuddly, I have seen
them described as the "Teddy Bears" of birds. This
golden beauty is an excellent breeder in captivity, and many
captive-raised birds are offered for sale yearly.
They make wonderful pets and their only drawback is their
sometimes loud calling. This occurs mostly in the morning
and evening, however, it is more pronounced in breeder birds
than in your tame hand raised bird. but as with all birds,
each bird has his or her own individual trait.
They are regular acrobats and little clowns. . They love
to get your attention. They can learn to speak in somewhat
squeaky voices, but their ability in this is somewhat limited.
However, they do make up for this with their cuddly personality.
They can sit for hours on your shoulder and just nestled on
your neck or want to be held.
And Sun Conures love lots of toys. Stay away from toys with
ropes, they will unwind individual strings. Some Conures have
a habit of getting tangled up in the ropes. I have heard of
other people having the same problem. Some really inexpensive
things they like to play with are cut up toilet paper rolls,
old keys on a ring, etc.
The bird has gold-orange plumage on its body with wings and
a tail of green. In the immatures, gold is mixed with the
green. The feet and beak are black. The sun grows to 12 inches.
The bird comes from Guianas, Brazil and Venezuela. Crosses
between the Sun and Janday Conures, with the name Sunday,
are often offered on the market.
